Arnon Sofer - Founder

In 2004, Professor Arnon Sofer embarked on a pioneering journey by establishing the Chaikin Chair for Geostrategy at the University of Haifa, a role he passionately filled until his retirement in 2016.

Esteemed not only for his profound knowledge but also for his visionary approach, Professor Sofer played a pivotal role in founding the Department of Geography at the University of Haifa, leaving an indelible mark on the academic landscape.

Throughout his illustrious career, Professor Sofer delved into many critical issues facing the State of Israel and the broader region.

His research spanned many topics, including demography, water resources, Jewish-Arab relations, the development of peripheral areas, environmental quality, and the complexities of warfare in urban environments, all within the intricate tapestry of political and strategic contexts.
